April Toadstool

One not to miss!!! This is Toadstool's first birthday and is on the 29th April! They have Ans from Nano Records especially for it. Plus all the usual UV Decor, Natterjacks costumed dancers (who will be debuting new outfits for the occasion), The incredible Toadstool Residents and the mayhem and messyness that usually ensues. I dare you to miss this one- you will only regret it!

March Toadstool

Well, what can I say? I thought the February Toadstool was amazing (see review below), but this one just completely blew it out of the water. The Toadstool Crew really did themselves proud, and none of the DJ's would look out of place playing amongst the very best that psy-trance has to offer judging by their performances on Friday night. Boris got the place jumping, and apart from an unintentional blip by Giles (Fungi-Psy'd), rocked the place from the start. After a few more momentary glitches Fungi-Psy'd played an amazing set which tore the roof off. Not so many 'unusual' touches as normal, but none-the-less, a blinder. I was behind the till for Timmer's set, but by all accounts he raised his game and played very well too. As for Rana (Darren), well, mate you destroyed the place with a storming, stomping set that was as inspired as it was technically brilliant! They almost had to peel me off the ceiling with a paint-scraper! Next came Toad (Nick) with a set to rival Rana's, but not quite as intense. Still had me dancing like the proverbial loon though! Finally, Wayne came on and the party continued till the lights came on just after 4am. What an amazing night! Big shout goes out to The Toadstool dancers, the Natterjacks who looked gorgeous as always, and to the manager/owner of Crackers who let the guys in early to prepare and it showed! Can't wait for the next one...

The Danny Torres Foundation

My day job involves looking after people with learning disabilities and Ibiza is my favourite place on the planet (and my spiritual home). So, when I happened upon this site I just had to publicise it. The Danny Torres Foundation aims to provide facilities for people with learning disabilities on Ibiza, where currently there are none. Please have a read of the site and make a donation if you are able to.
Thanks.

DRUGS

It's just been reported on the BBC news that here in the UK that we have the highest level of amphetamine use in Europe, and the 3rd highest level of heroin use despite having the highest detection and seizure rate in the EEC. Now I'm not going to moralise about the rights and wrongs of drugs use and misuse, but it is simple fact that clubbing, youth culture and drugs use in the UK are inextricably linked. It is estimated that approximately 120,000 tablets of Ecstacy are taken every weekend here. However, jailing drug users and addicts doesn't work, and never has. Over 85% of the USA's prison population are there for drugs offences- do you honestly believe that they are all going to come out of jail one day and be clean? Get real. We are never going to stop drug use.
Those people who get addicted to heroin and crack cocaine aren't just morons (any sane-minded adult knows the dangers of those two drugs), they're sick. They need treatment, not putting in prison. Jesus, if I were in prison I'd want to be off my head every single day for the rest of my life just to try to forget the experience!
What we need to do is educate our young people. Moralising against huge swathes of youth cultures or alienating already disenfranchised people is counter productive- a lot of people will use drugs in a recreational way when they go out, so why make them feel bad about it? Why criminalise them?
There are many good resources all over the net giving information on the chemical components of drugs, and why opiates work on the human body to what to do in an emergency, or if someone OD's.
I say that if you are going to take drugs you have a duty to yourself and your friends to educate yourself as much as possible. Read up as much as possible on your chosen drug(s). Think about what you've read and then find out some more. And then think about it again. Learn what to do if a friend OD's. Try to find out what to do if somebody you suspect/know has taken Ecstacy and appears to be struggling or over-heating.

I'm not going to say whether you should or shouldn't take drugs- if you're going clubbing this weekend your mind's probably made up anyway. But if one person reads this, and goes on to save someone's life, then surely it was worth it.
Think about it.

February Toadstool

Ok, so Toadstool is my official night out, so I guess I am a little biased, but....well, I personally think it was the best one yet!!! It didn't start out too brilliantly, with the owner of the club only turning up at 9:45pm leaving the crew with only 15 minutes to set up [sort it out mate-they need more time!!!], but once things were sorted and the event got underway it was amazing!!! I started just chilling and talking to the guys- Marcus, much respect for the technicolour dream 'fro!!!! After being beckoned onto the dancefloor by the lovely Shiva, I basically stayed there all night, taking only brief breaks to relax and have a ciggie! The music was amazing- Boris, Toad (Nick) and Rana (Darren) played solid mixes of excellent tunes. Hand signs making 'T' signs were going up all over the place as one tremendous track after another enveloped the club! Wayner's mix just caught me at the right time and sent me sky-wards, and Fun-Gi Psy'd (Giles) played his usual eclectic mix which carried me on. Finally the mighty F'da F'da hit the decks and blew me away as usual with his brand of storming, stomping set. Absolutely staggering all night and left me wanting more!!!!
Unfortunately, I danced so much I could barely walk for a couple of days after but I just couldn't help myself- it was that good!!! Can't wait for the next one!!!!
